Grapefruit & Molasses Foodies

Community Group

The Grapefruit and Molasses Foodies community group is based in the parish of St. Thomas. Members of the group share a common passion for food and all that it entails. The group was formed in 2006 and grapefruit and molasses are the signature features because St. Thomas is the birth place of the grapefruit and molasses is an important feature of Bajan (Barbadian) gastronomy. Their focus is to harness and share the local gastronomic passion by combining authentic regional ingredients, home style cooking and a deep respect for the land and its surrounding ecology into fresh and clean cuisine.

Food and Farm Lover’s Trail
This tour is led by members of the group through the community. It starts at the entrance to Welchman Hall Gully, tours along Vault Road and ends with a tour through the gully. The tour is intended to connect people with the food they eat, the people who grow it and how it is prepared. You will discover farms that produce delicious produce and you will meet some of the community members who farm and others who make their living from small food based enterprises. You will also have the opportunity to sample some local gastronomic delights from the community’s best in the trade, including rum, ham cutters, fresh coconut water, freshly baked sweetbread and fresh herbs.
