Community Outreach

Community Participation

Community participation is very important to everyone connected with the gully. Members of staff volunteer for several outreach programmes that benefit the community.

  1. 1. For the last ten years Welchman Hall Gully has been part of “de Heart uh Barbados” celebrations. This is a truly unique nature based community event that includes all the attractions in the area; the larger sites such as Harrison’s Cave, Flower Forest, Ariel Trek and Eco- Heritage Museum as well as smaller local businesses and individual community members. For two days, the community members receive a free pass to all the attractions. There is a farm and craft market, entertainment, food, scenic bus tours and much more. For more information call (246) 438-7761. The event takes place annually on the third weekend in June.
  1. 2. Two staff members are active members of a community based group that arose from “de Heart uh Barbados” called Grapefruit and Molasses Foodies. Both members are also volunteers of “de heart uh Barbados”.

  1. 3. In partnership with the Hope Sanctuary, a animal rescue shelter for abandoned and neglected dogs and cats, Welchman Hall Gully funds the spaying and neutering of cats. The Hope Sanctuary sister organisation the Hope-Martin Animal Foundation focuses mainly on spaying and neutering dogs. None of the rescued animals are euthanized. The foundation also has good working relationships with many veterinarians who offer discounts for care of these rescued animals. For more information on both organisations see their web site www.thehopesanctuary.com
